My Serena & Lily Thank You Event Picks

As many of you know by now, Serena & Lily is one of my very favorite brands, and their Thank You Event is something I look forward to every year! I think their classic style has such a polished yet effortless feel, and I love incorporating their timeless pieces into my designs as well as my own home. This event is such a great time to save, so I’m going to be sharing my picks, along with a few images of how I’ve incorporated their pieces into my home.

During the Serena & Lily Thank You Event, almost everything is 25% off from 11/26-12/3 with code THANKFUL.

I love sprinkling a few of their pillows into as many places in my home as possible, and think their textiles can really elevate a space. Their pillow collection makes it easy to mix and match, and allows you to incorporate a bit of muted color and texture to make a room feel styled and complete.

The subtle contrast these Blakely Plaid pillows pulls in a nice touch of dimension to our master bedroom, and I love that they could work with a wide variety of styles and color schemes.

When I built this bench seat into our dormer window I always dreamed of filling it with pillows to create a cozy reading nook. The embroidery detail on these Leighton pillows is impeccable, and give them such a high quality, timeless look. I also love that Serena & Lily’s pillows are double sided so they look good from all angles, which is such a nice bonus.

Another category you won’t want to miss is their lighting! I love these Flynn sconces that I used in my mom’s bedroom makeover, and I couldn’t resist ordering them for my guest room refresh that I’m currently working on! I think they add in so much warmth to a space while keeping things clean lined and minimal. I also have the floor lamp version in my living room, and know these will be pieces I’ll cherish for a very long time.

Lastly, I suggest taking a look through their extensive bedding and bath options if you’re looking to upgrade your linens. We just recently upgraded our guest bathroom linens to the Banded Border Bath Collection, and they’re so soft and plush I’m finding it hard not to steal them for our master bathroom! I also got the iconic dip-dyed stool and love that it’s so versatile and could literally work in any spot in the house.

Guest Bedroom Tips with Serena & Lily

The holiday season quickly approaching, which also means that hosting season is upon us! We host guests throughout the year, but our guest room gets constant use during the holiday season. Today I’m sharing a few simple tips that I use when hosting guests to help keep them comfortable during their stay. As an extreme homebody myself, I always get anxious sleeping somewhere new, wondering if it will have the same comforts or conveniences of home, so I try my best to eliminate those worries for guests that stay in my home.

My number one tip is to have crisp, clean, and extremely comfortable bedding. We just upgraded our sheets, duvet, and quilt with Serena & Lily’s best-in-class bedding, so I know that our guests will get a comfortable night’s sleep. I always like to offer several layers of bedding so guests can choose how much they’d like to bundle up at night. Our weather can also fluctuate a lot this time of year, so you never know how many layers you’ll need. For my bedding this season, I’ve chosen the Beach Club Sheet Set and layered in the Border Frame Duvet Cover and topped it off with the Sutter Linen Quilt. I love the subtle touch of color the pink sand quilt adds to the all neutral space.

In the closet I like to include a box fan, ample storage space for suitcases, and hangers for guests to hang anything that could wrinkle easily. In case of wrinkles I also include a clothes steamer for guests to use if need be.

I always have fresh flowers or greenery on the nightstand to make my guests feel welcome, and tuck some tissues and coasters into the drawers of the nightstand. Across from the bed I have a secretary cabinet where I keep plenty of water bottles, individually wrapped snacks and granola bars, and some nice dark chocolates for guests to help themselves to during their stay.

I also have a small armchair in the corner of the room to give my guests another place to relax in the space. I made sure to double up on window treatments with the roman shade and curtain panels to provide a filtered light option as well as complete room darkening for all types of sleepers.

Across the hall is the guest bathroom, where I’ve made sure to maintain the same level of comfort and convenience. This season I’ve upgraded our linens to Serena & Lily’s Banded Border Bath Collection and Turkish Bath Mat. I’ve also included the small Dip-Dyed Stool to add a bit of warmth into the space, and as another place guests can set things they’ll need while in the shower.

I like to make sure there are plenty of freshly washed linens, and include extra shower products, toothbrushes, and toothpaste in the vanity in case guests have forgotten to pack anything. I love adding in a nice mildly scented soap and fresh greenery and florals in this space as well.

Our Neutral Office Makeover

Our office makeover is finally complete! I started on this project in the early fall, but the reveal was delayed a bit because the light fixture I purchased was backordered for a couple months. I knew that when I ordered it, but thought it was perfect for the space and I was happy to wait for it. We just installed it last week and it is really the finishing touch this space needed! It feels so much cozier in here with the addition of this Rattan Pendant. We didn’t have any overhead lighting in this room, so I had my electrician put that in and it’s been great to have an additional layer of lighting in the evenings. Most of the rooms in our home do not have overhead lighting, so I’m on a mission to add that into every space this year as I find the right lighting!

The first thing I did to refresh this space was to paint the board and batten accent wall back to the white that’s throughout the rest of our home, Sherwin Williams Extra White. When I installed the board and batten last fall I went with Sherwin Williams Tin Lizzie, and after a while it just didn’t feel like me, as I find I’m happiest in light and bright spaces. That small change instantly made the space feel brand new!

I also moved my White Sands print over to the adjacent wall because even with the anti glare frame the light coming in from the windows was too strong and the art was hard to see.

Here’s a photo of the before. When I originally designed this room we thought we’d use it as another hangout space, but we never really used it for relaxing, so I pared the furniture down to just the desk in the center of the room and the chair in the corner.

I had been eyeing the Yates Chair from McGee and Co. for a really long time, and I thought the office would be the perfect space to use it, and I get to see it down the hall each morning when I open up my bedroom door. It’s such a comfortable chair, and the cushion is really thick and well made.

We both love this space so much now, and can’t wait to spend more time in here this winter since it gets some of the best light in the house.

My Mom's Bedroom Makeover

I’m finally sharing all of the details on the bedroom makeover I did for my Mom over the summer! It all started when she saw one of the design boards I’d made in the early spring, and asked me if we could use that design as a basis for this room in her home. Of course, I said yes, and we began ordering things. We also gave the room a fresh coat of paint to make it as bright as possible. We chose Sherwin Williams Greek Villa which is a nice bright white with a warm undertone to compliment the stained woodwork my parent’s have in their home.

The bed and nightstands came very quickly, so once we saw the finishes of those pieces in person, we headed out to Homegoods to find bedding to complete the space. We were very fortunate that they’d just gotten a big shipment of bedding, so we had a lot to choose from! We went with this gray/blue jacquard quilt, and paired it with a simple white cotton duvet, and textured blanket. We found the muted blue floral pillows which tied in nicely with the quilt and artwork, and gave the space a subtle touch of color and pattern.

We also picked up this diamond patterned wool rug to lighten up the space a bit more. The ivory velvet curtains were a Homegoods purchase from several years ago, but they worked really well with the new paint color and design, so we kept those.

Once the artwork and sconces arrived the space really came together. These Flynn wall sconces have been a major favorite of mine for quite some time, so I was very excited to see how beautiful they are in person. I think they really elevated this design and added in some much needed texture to all the light neutrals in the room. I love the vintage touch this Bronte Beach artwork adds to the space, along with the pop of muted color. This bedroom isn’t too large, so there wasn’t room to add in any additional furniture pieces to the space other than the bed and two dressers, and my Mom really loved how clean and minimal the room felt at that point, so we called this project complete!
