Bedding Roundup

One of my favorite things to purchase for my home, and one of the few things I am guilty of overbuying, is bedding! I truly feel that there is no substitute for a good night’s sleep, and bedding plays a big part in that. I also enjoy a well made bed that looks very inviting. I make my bed every day, and love the feeling of getting into a nicely made bed every night! Today, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite bedding along with my formula for how I personally like to make my bed. I know climate and the temperature in your specific bedroom will affect how many layers you’d personally like to include, so this can certainly be adjusted to suit your needs.

When I make my bed I always include these six things:

  1. Soft Sheets

  2. Quilt

  3. Pillow Shams

  4. Duvet + Cover

  5. Blanket

  6. Decorative Pillows

I’m going to go through each category and provide some affordable and luxury suggestions for each. I like to use a mix of both in my bedroom.

Sheets

If there is one category that I’d splurge on, it’s sheets. Since that’s the layer that comes in direct contract with your skin the most, it’s really important to me to have something super soft and breathable. I have been able to find other brands for lower cost that are comfortable after several washes, but find they end up pilling after a while, and don’t have the longevity as something made with higher quality materials.

Quilt

After I put on the sheets, I like to layer on a quilt so that we have the option to just have a light layer on in case our bedroom gets hot during the night. Where we live the temperature can fluctuate a lot from day to day, so it’s nice to have plenty of layers to accommodate the temperature changes.

Pillow Shams

I usually like to tie in my pillow shams to either my quilt or my duvet cover, but this is definitely an area where you could incorporate some more color and pattern into the space, especially if you don’t want to use too many decorative pillows.

Duvet + Cover

I like to add in a nice thick duvet insert and a neutral cover to give the bed a fluffy and full look, plus we also like the added weight while we’re sleeping. In our bedroom a thick duvet isn’t always practical some months out of the year, but even then I’ll typically fold it at the foot of the bed to keep things looking styled, and some nights we’ll remove it before bed if it’s especially hot.

Blanket

I like to add in one more layer at the foot of the bed with a throw blanket. This layer is mostly decorative, and we typically pull this off the bed before sleeping at night. That being said, I don’t think this layer needs to be expensive, so I’ve rounded up a lot of affordable options for this category.

Decorative Pillows

The last layer I like to add is 1-3 decorative throw pillows to complete the styling and add in a bit of pattern and personality. For the bedding, I focus on neutrals and a lot of texture, and the decorative pillows are where I like to mix things up since those are more affordable to change out when you want to switch up the look in your space. That way, if you decide to invest in some bedding items you won’t have to worry about tiring of the colors and feeling the need to change those pieces out prematurely.
