Fall Bed Styling Tips with Serena and Lily

It’s officially fall, and it’s reached that time in the season where we start to bring in some warmer layers to our bedroom to stay warm and cozy through these colder months. Our bedding just got a major update with a lot of great pieces from Serena and Lily, and today I thought I’d share a few bed styling tips!

It’s no secret that I love bedding, and I truly believe there is no replacement for a good night’s sleep. We’ve been using the same bedding for a few years now, so I thought it would be a great time to upgrade a few of our basics and update our throw pillows and blankets to give the space a more cozy look for fall.

I started with the beach club sheet set in fog. I love that the subtle embroidered detail gives the bedding a more custom look, and the sheets feel so silky! I never thought that sheets could make such a difference in a good nights sleep, but my husband and I have found that there really is no comparison between budget sheets and these—they are really worth the investment. I also love that the pillow cases have an envelope style closure at the ends so that the pillow insert stays tucked in and looking polished—a detail I haven’t yet found on other luxury sheets!

Next I added in the montauk coverlet and shams in white . No matter what the season, I always layer in a quilt or coverlet on top of my sheets so that we have the option to just use those two and can leave the heavy comforter and throws at the foot of the bed on warmer nights. I love the texture of the montauk coverlet—it has a nice amount of weight to it and still feels breathable so it’s been putting us right to sleep at night!

After the coverlet, I always add in a duvet and duvet cover. I upgraded our duvet cover to the cavallo linen duvet cover in flax chambray and it’s so soft! We had a budget linen duvet cover before, and even though we had washed it countless times, the cavallo duvet cover was softer right out of the box. I was also very happily surprised at how few wrinkles it had after washing it! I’m glad to know that I won’t have to steam the cover after washing it like we had to do with our old one.

After I added the basics, then came the fun part—styling! I wanted the bed to feel very inviting and cozy with plenty of texture. I brought in the oversized and amazing henely wool throw in ivory first. I have admired this throw for a long time, and it did not disappoint! It’s so well made and substantial, pictures really don’t do justice to how thick and heavy this blanket is.

I also added in seascape pillow in smoke and the silverwood pillow in silver. I wanted a super layered look, and I loved how the subtle texture in the seascape pillow ties in with the sheepskin texture in the silverwood pillow. I’ve been obsessed with all things sheepskin lately and I knew these pillows would be the perfect cozy layer the second I discovered them! They definitely did the trick, and when my husband saw the bed made up for the first time he said it looked so cozy he wanted to jump in!

In the fall I always tend to layer my decor a little bit more than I typically would in warmer seasons. It’s a great way to pull in a cozy touch to a space, but it’s also practical when considering bedding, since this time of year the seasons are transitioning and the weather fluctuates a lot. I can honestly say this is my favorite look I’ve ever created in our bedroom, and my husband and I are both looking forward to relaxing in this space this season!
