This Week's Target Finds

I came across so many great finds during today’s Target run that I decided to do a quick post on everything I saw! I’ve made a board below, and it’s packed with a lot of great pieces that will definitely get you in the mood for spring! The rattan counter stool was definitely a favorite of mine, along with the white windsor bench, which I think would look great in an entryway, or even on a covered front porch! I also found a ton of great bedding, and since I’ve gotten many requests for affordable pillows lately I’ve rounded up my favorites from the new Hearth & Hand collection!

Affordable Dressers Under $1000

We’ve had an electric fireplace in our master bedroom for about six years now, and this season it finally stopped working, so I’ve decided I’d like to replace it with a dresser. We could really use the additional folded storage upstairs for linens that a dresser would provide, and I’d like to have something a bit lower to style. I’ve been thinking I’d like to incorporate a six drawer dresser into the space, but have seen a few three drawer dresser I’ve liked as well. Today, I’ve rounded up some of the dressers I’ve seen lately that I’ve liked, and have sorted them into two categories—under $500, and under $1000. I know the last time I did a dresser roundup it was probably my most popular post to date, so I figured I’d put together some of the ones I’ve seen recently since I’ve been keeping my eye out for good deals!

My Favorite Etsy Pillow Shops

One of the most asked source questions I get on Instagram is where I get my pillows from, so today I’m sharing all of my favorite sources! I get the majority of my pillows from small Etsy shops because I like to use a mixture of vintage and designer textiles, and Etsy is the best place for both in my opinion! I’m going to list all my favorites below, and what I like about each shop. I will also have a few of my picks from their current offerings!

089C9458-3ECF-419A-8CBB-86764ACBD462.jpeg

My Haven Home — I love the warm, neutral mix of textiles the shop owner curates, and she has very fair prices for everything! She always has an awesome selection of grain sack, Chinese wedding blanket, and beautiful camel/brown Hmong pillows. The shop owner also does an amazing job at getting your pillow delivered quickly! It’s the fastest shipping I’ve ever experienced on Etsy.

Cloth and Main — The owner, Kristin, sources the most beautiful warm neutrals. This is a go to for me when looking for a super unique Thai pillow. She also has an awesome selection of rare textiles like ikats and more unique Chinese wedding blanket pillows.

K Line Deco — One of my favorite shops for a unique selection of designer textiles. This shop always has a really classic and timeless selection of beautiful patterns that you typically don’t see used by a lot of designers, so they feel very fresh.

Boho Pillow — I love the darker more muted tones that the shop owner, Monica, curates. She always has a great selection of Chinese batik pillow covers, and I will typically come across a new pattern or style that I’ve never seen before when I visit her shop.

Orange Olive Studio — This is Spark Modern’s ready made shop, where they sell ready to ship pillows for a discount. If you’re looking to add in some designer textiles and want to stick to a lower price point, this is a great shop to browse. They only offer the pillows in random sizes, but you can come across some gems here and there.

2019 Favorite Things

With 2019 coming to a close, I thought I’d put together a little roundup of a few of my favorite things this year. Everything included are items that I personally own and have enjoyed throughout the year, from home decor to tech gadgets!

BB Favorite Things 2019.jpg

Starting at the top of the collage, I’ve included the Billie Razor subscription and Rose Quartz facial roller. Two items I discovered this year that I absolutely love, and can’t imagine not having. I love how easy and affordable the Billie subscription is, plus the razor works really well. It comes with a wall mount with a magnet so it stores really well in the shower, too. I definitely haven’t seen any health or skin improvements with my rose quartz facial roller, but I love pulling it out of the fridge and rolling it under my eyes when I’m feeling especially tired. I spend 12+ hours a day looking a screen for work, so I’ve found it helps me feel refreshed when working long hours.

Since I mostly work from home, another necessity is comfortable clothes. I definitely have some sensory issues when it comes to clothing, so anything that’s made this list is extremely comfortable, and has been worn and washed many many times, and has my stamp of approval! A few years ago a discovered Aerie leggings, and haven’t been able to wear any other brand since. I’ve found that a few of the styles have pilling issues, but the styles I’m linking are made with quality materials and have held up great.

For tops I’ve been loving Anine Bing sweatshirts, and my Patagonia pullover. These pieces are more of an investment, but they last much longer than the less expensive sweatshirts I’ve bought in the past. My Anine Bing Tiger sweatshirt has been worn and washed more times than I can count, and it still looks brand new. No fading, pilling, and the screen printed image on the front still looks perfect. I should mention—I put everything in the dryer, too! My Patagonia Pullover is well made and so soft I have a hard time taking it off! I love that it has a lifetime warranty, so I felt totally comfortable with the price point with that kind of guarantee.

The last clothing item I’m sharing are my Golden Goose sneakers. I don’t own many pairs of shoes, and when I do purchase new ones I always make sure they’re comfortable, and made with quality materials. I love that these shoes required no break in period, and were comfortable straight out of the box. They’re lined with terry cloth on the inside, which makes them super soft and would be comfortable if you like wearing shoes without socks. They also have about a 1” hidden lift in the heel, which I think makes them more comfortable since it gives your foot more of a natural arch. I like that they come distressed, because it lengthens the life of the shoe since you don’t have to worry about them looking worn out if you wear them a lot, or feel like you need to be super careful when you have them on.

I’ve also included some of my favorite home decor pieces that I think are super classic and would flow nicely with many design styles. First up are the Flynn Sconces from Serena & Lily that I ended up using in my mom’s bedroom makeover and my recently completed guest room makeover. I also have the Flynn floor lamp in my living room. I love the texture the woven shade adds to any space in combination with the clean lines and mixed metals in the base.

The Poetto vase is such a great staple that can be used anywhere, and looks great with any kind of flowers or greenery, or even displayed empty in a built in bookcase. Lastly, the Blakely Plaid pillow cover is another favorite that transitions nicely from season to season. The plaid print is classic enough that it works in the spring and summer, and still feels festive in the fall and winter months.

I’ve also rounded up a few of my favorite tech gadgets that I rely on heavily throughout the year. I love our Nest doorbell and outdoor security cameras so I can keep tabs on my home from my phone. We just recently got the Chamberlain smart garage hub for our garage door opener and I love that I can make sure our door is closed from my phone as well! We’ve had our Sonos for about five years, and listen to XM radio on it all day long! I love that I can control everything from my phone, and we’ve had no issues with the speaker in the last five years. The sound quality is great, and I like that you can add more speakers in throughout your home. Our home is small, so we can hear the one speaker in just about every room. Lastly, I can’t live with my Anker portable charger. I’m terrible about keeping my phone charged, so it’s nice to keep that in my purse so I can make sure I have backup power while I’m away from home. I love having a backup charger on vacation, too! We usually end up being away from a charger all day, and I like to take a lot of photos, so I end up using the backup charger just about every day of the trip!

Last but not least, I’ve included my three favorite coffee table books of 2019. Not only are they beautiful books to display, they are are full of inspiration and have brought me so much joy.

I hope you all are finding some time to relax and enjoy the season, and I wish you a happy and healthy New Year!

Weekend Style: Casual Nature-Inspired Entryway

New Arrivals at Target

I hope you all had a nice holiday! It’s come time to start thinking about taking down Christmas decor, and I always find that when I do that I want to restyle some spaces in my home or change things up. Today I’ve rounded up all my picks from Target’s new decor and furniture pieces if you’re looking for an affordable way to freshen things up for the new year!

Bar Cart Two Ways with Serena & Lily

I have a fun new home update to share with you all today! We recently updated our entryway with a new bar cart from Serena & Lily, and I’m loving the versatility of this new piece! We got the South Seas Bar Cart in the black, and it pulls from the other black elements in our home so nicely while still keeping the space bright, casual, and inviting.

We call this room our “entryway” but it was originally meant to be a second dining space in our home. Since the other dining space is literally ten feet away, and our home is 1500 square feet, we definitely did not need two dining spaces for just two people. This room is the first space you enter as you walk in from our garage, and it’s also the first room you see when you come through the front door, so we use it as a drop zone, and a second home office.

This has ended up being my husband’s favorite place to work, and while he never asks for anything design-wise, he has always talked about wanting a “sipping room” with a bar area. Lately I’ve been thinking it’s time for a change in this space, so I thought we’d mix things up and give him that sipping room feel in here! This bar cart is so versatile, which makes it the perfect piece for our space. We can dress it up as a cocktail station during the holidays, but can also swap out the decor and create more of an everyday entryway feel with it as well.

image 5.JPG

Today I’m showing how I’ve created two looks with this bar cart—the look on the left is festive and perfect for the holidays for your guests to treat themselves to a cocktail, and the look on the right is a great option for a more causal look that would suit everyday life.

Since it seems like guests are always dropping by this time of year, I’ve kept the styling very festive but seasonal for the cocktail station. That way, this could be set up in November, and enjoyed from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve.

I’ve just done a simple decanter and faceted glass vases that add a little sparkle to the cart. The pine cones on the bottom shelf are an easy seasonal touch that requires no maintenance and will look nice all winter long—all you need is a pretty vessel to display them in.

For the everyday look I’ve pulled in some of my favorite coffee table books and styling pieces to create a casual vignette. A small bowl for keys or sunglasses could easily be added, along with a mail holder for letters. Since we have a couple of coat hooks right next to this cart, this is such a great space for me to set things down as I’m heading in or out the door.

We are so happy with this update to our entryway, and look forward to using in many ways throughout the year! I’m going to share the sources below along with a few of my favorite entertaining pieces from Serena & Lily!

Our Guest Room Makeover

I’m so excited to share our recent guest room makeover today! I’m really loving the lighter and brighter feel of this space, along with the more casual vibe. I feel like it really flows nicely with the new office, and it embodies the relaxed feel that I’m striving for in the rest of our home. I know a lot of you loved our previous guest room, so I’m going to explain a bit about why I decided it was time for a change in this space.

As much I loved the contrast the dark gray headboard brought into the space, it took up a lot of visual space in the room and made it too dark for me. I find that I love spaces to be as light and bright as possible, and no matter what bedding or accessories I pulled in along with the dark gray bed, it just didn’t feel like the right fit for our home and aesthetic.

The first thing I chose for the space was this super affordable slipcovered bed. I absolutely love the look and relaxed feel that slipcovered beds bring into a bedroom, and appreciate the cozy feel the footboard adds. As you all probably know by now, I have an affinity for vintage textiles, and I wanted more of a blank slate so I can have plenty of freedom to change things up.

BD2A7DAB-AC41-4B56-BAA7-48CB615D1194.jpeg

The next thing I knew was going into the space were these woven sconces. You may recognize them from my Mom’s bedroom makeover that I did this summer. I have always been captivated by them, and love the balance of simplicity and dimension they add to a space. The nightstands bring a minimal feel to the space, and add in more warmth, while serving as a blank canvas for endless styling.

One of the biggest upgrades this room got was a rug! Our old guest room never really had one, and it needed one. This room is small, and requires a 9’x6’ rug, and I could never find one that I liked with the other furniture we had in the space. With the more neutral palette I had more freedom in what I chose, and loved this vintage style Loloi rug. The combination of champagne and warm gray tones bring just the right amount of warmth into the space and it’s SO PLUSH! It’s probably the softest, deepest pile rug of this kind I’ve ever felt.

Another thing this room desperately needed was overhead lighting! We’ve slowing been adding that throughout our home this year, since hardly any rooms had it when we bought the house. I moved our master bedroom light fixture in this space since I recently purchased a new light for in there, and can’t wait to show you that soon!

I’ve finished out the styling with some accessories from local shops, and added in these vintage pillows from two of my favorite pillow shops, My Haven Home and Cloth & Main. I’ve also ordered this art piece from McGee & Co. which should arrive in a few weeks. For now, I’ve added this faux wreath with bells for the holidays.

I’m so pleased with how this makeover turned out, and think this new space really feels more like me! I will be sharing some behind the scenes videos of the transformation in my instagram stories, so stay tuned for that!
